Thinking Camp
Where clients help shape the future.
Every year, we round up some clients, friends, and ideas and head to Toronto Island to plan our next big thing. Thinking Camp is not a typical conference. It is a two-day gathering where the people who build Thinking Cap LMS sit down with the people who use it every day.
Together, we talk openly about what is working, what could be better, and where the platform should go next. It is part customer council, part innovation retreat, and part long-running Thinking Cap tradition.
Why Thinking Camp Exists
We pitch our tents around the roadmap
In 2008, Thinking Cap President Douglas Wallace created an environment where employees and clients could speak freely, share honestly, and feel comfortable saying, “I wish your product could...” That idea became Thinking Camp.
We make room for frank, useful conversations
Thinking Camp breaks down the walls between our team and our clients. Executives, developers, support staff, quality assurance specialists, learning experts, and core users talk openly about the platform, service, technical delivery, industry trends, and real-world training needs.
No good idea is left behind
We deeply value the thoughts and opinions of our clients and employees alike. Their ideas, feedback, solutions, and leadership influence how we plan, improve, and grow Thinking Cap LMS.
Thinking Caps On
With blackboards ready, notebooks neatly piled, pens in order, and coffee close at hand, the atmosphere is relaxed and ready for ideas to flow. The setting helps everyone step out of the everyday rush and into a more open, creative conversation.
Doug begins with an energetic look at the learning industry, then moves into the questions at the heart of Thinking Camp: Where are Thinking Cap products now? How do we envision them? How do we get them going? From there, clients and employees share what they would like to see next.
What Happens at Camp?
Roadmap conversations
We look at where Thinking Cap LMS is now, where clients need it to go, and how we can move the right ideas forward together.
Client-led insight
Clients share how they use the LMS, what their learners need, and which improvements would make the biggest difference in their day-to-day work.
Whole-team participation
The full Thinking Cap team participates, including leadership, developers, support, QA, and client-facing staff, so feedback reaches the people best positioned to act on it.
A setting made for fresh thinking
Held on Toronto Island, Thinking Camp feels intentionally cut off from the world. The location gives everyone space to focus, connect, and think creatively.
Radical transparency
Thinking Camp gives clients a clear view into our thinking, priorities, challenges, and product direction. We talk about the relationship honestly, including the wins, the friction points, and the work still ahead.
Community connection
Clients learn from our team and from one another. For new clients and long-time users alike, the conversations often spark practical ideas they can bring back to their own learning programs.
How Camp Ideas Shape the Roadmap
Thinking Camp is built around collaborative roadmap definition. Clients can lobby for feature requests, share emerging training needs, compare best practices, and explain the small day-to-day details that make a big difference in real learning environments.
Those conversations directly influence Thinking Cap LMS. The event helps us decide what to improve, what to build, what to revisit, and how to keep our product aligned with the people who depend on it.
Why Clients Come Back
Spending time with the staff of Thinking Cap and the other users was invaluable to us as new clients, and first time LMS/Author users. We were able to hear where the company and solutions were headed and had an opportunity to discuss and truly influence the future. I truly appreciate how much power they are putting into our hands to self-service, and am really excited about the new innovations.
Join Us at Thinking Camp
This free event has grown steadily since it began in 2008. Attendees return because they know their voices matter, their ideas are heard, and their feedback helps shape something bigger than a single feature request.
Between annual camps, the conversation continues through our online community at camp.thinkingcap.com, where clients can access training resources, collaboration forums, and examples from the wider Thinking Cap community.
